It's no secret that orchids come in some of the most interesting colors and shapes. There are many different kinds that grow in many types of environments, but here are five.
1. Dancing Lady Orchid
Dancing lady orchids have a vivid yellow color and brown spotty on their frilly petals. They really do look like a cheerful flower, and characteristically enjoy warmer climates and handle sunlight better than other types of orchids.
2. Greater Swamp Orchid
The greater swamp orchid, also known as the nun's-hood orchid, flowers in white, brown, mauve and yellow. The flower is native to East Asia.
3. Cockleshell Orchid
Cockleshell orchids have a unique shape. The "cockleshell" shaped part of the flower grows in shades of dark purple, while the tendril-like petals tend to be greenish color. This flower enjoys humid climates and is native to the swamps of Florida.
4. Vanilla Orchid
Possibly the most well known orchid, the vanilla orchid blooms in shades of cream, yellow and green. The beans of this flower are used in vanilla flavoring for deserts and fragrances.
5. Cattleya Orchid
This orchid typically blooms in a variety of yellow, pink, white and lavender colors. It is native to Brazil and tend to thrive in warmer climates.
