How To Keep A Bouquet Of Flowers Fresh For Longer

Bouquets are the perfect gift for any occasion. They're beautiful, fragrant and can brighten up any room they're placed in. But there's one problem: they don't last very long.

There are a few factors that determine how long your bouquet will stay fresh for, the main ones being temperature and water quality.

Temperature

Flowers tend to wilt faster in warmer temperatures. Therefore, it's a good idea to keep them out of the sun or the warmer parts of your home. Make sure to keep them in cooler temperatures and avoid using hot water in their vase.

Water

Speaking of water, flowers tend to stay fresh longer in water with a higher pH because that reduces the amount of harmful bacteria. Removing foliage like fallen leaves and petals will help keep the water clean. Adding dissolved sugar and/or some apple cider vinegar will also help slow down the wilting process, and to go a step further, replacing the water every few days will reduce the likelihood of bacteria forming as well.

Stem

Another well known trick is to cut two inches off of the stem to help the flowers absorb water more efficiently. If possible, cut them underwater to prevent air bubbles from forming.
